Conductor Hrůš has won two Gramophone awards, the Czech Philharmonic is Orchestra of the Year

Director Jakub Hrůša turned both nominations into the prestigious Gramophone music awards, which are given by the British monthly magazine of the same name. The recordings in which he participated were successful in the Opera and Concerto categories. In the first, the jury recommended the recording of the opera Káťa Kabanová by Leoš Janáček, in the second, an album of compositions by Benjamin Britten won. The Czech Philharmonic became the orchestra of the year.

The recording of the opera Janáček Káťa Kabanová was created the previous year at the Salzburg Festival in collaboration with the Vienna Philharmonic under the direction of Barrie Kosky with the American soprano Corinne Winters in the title role. “Hrůša is simply amazing in this work and perfectly mixes the combination of lyricism and tension,” the jury praised the recording, which was already in January. she got the International Classical Music Awards, presented by leading editors of music magazines and representatives of cultural institutions.

In the Concerto category, the Benjamin Britten CD was the concert album of the year. It was created in collaboration with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. The soloist was German violinist Isabelle Faust, who played Britten’s Violin Concerto No. 15. Britten’s chamber pieces complete the recording.

Gramophone magazine named the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra of the Year, supported by their recordings of Bedřich Smetana’s Mé vlasti or the first Czech orchestral recording with mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožena under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. In the past, the Czech group Pavel Haas Quartet has also won the Gramophone monthly music awards, which has already won the award six times. the last time in 2018 to record Quintets op. 81 and 97 by Antonín Dvořák. The album scored in the Chamber Music category.
