Condor follows the example of Norwegian – Up in the Sky

German holiday airline Condor has announced three new destinations in the United States: Los Angeles, New York JFK and San Francisco. In addition to the new routes, flights to Baltimore, Boston, Minneapolis, Phoenix and Portland will also resume.

With the new routes, Condor is following Norwegian’s lead, connecting major European cities, in this case Frankfurt, with major cities in the United States. This differs from Condor’s regular routes, which, in collaboration with tour operators, normally go to smaller destinations leiden.

Travel restrictions

The new routes are being introduced in response to the increasing demand for travel to the United States. This increase can not only be explained by the limited travel restrictions to the US. The often still strict restrictions that apply to travel to, for example, Asia also have an influence.

Condor

The budget airline generally flies little to the major cities in North America. Instead, the choice often falls on smaller destinations. For example, Fairbanks in Alaska, Phoenix in Arizona and the Canadian Whitehorse are visited.

These destinations are attractive to Condor because the company usually flies for tour operators. While few travelers will only book a plane ticket to a city like Phoenix, Condor uses the city as an arrival point for package holidays to, for example, the Grand Canyon.

The Netherlands

For flights from Amsterdam, Condor uses a codeshare with Lufthansa. Transatlantic, the company deploys a combination of Boeing 767-300s and Airbus A330-200s. Soon the company will also deploy its new A330neo’s, with a new lookin on long flights.
