Sending out a bull Hope will not disappoint (“Hope does not disappoint”), which was read on the Feast of the Ascension, May 9, in St. Peter’s Basilica, the Pope wanted to represent the Jubilee Year in the context of hope, which is one of the three divine virtues. . The statement of the Apostle Penitentiary emphasizes that fullness allows us to know the infinite mercy of God and therefore they are “a true gift of Jubilee”.

The penitentiary, called the “tribunal of mercy”, remembers the normal conditions necessary for receiving indulgences, namely Confession, receiving Holy Communion and praying the intention of the Holy Father. “Truly penitent and free from connection to sin, and guided by the spirit of mercy, the faithful who, during the Holy Year, will be cleansed in the Sacrament of Penance and satisfied with Holy Communion, will pray in the intentions of the Pope, we will receive full concessions from the Church’s finances”, we read in the document. However, to receive concessions, the faithful must go on a pilgrimage, or do charity work, or do penance.

Attendance at the pilgrimage at Holy Mass or a service at a place associated with the Jubilee will allow full discounts. In addition, it will be possible to go through the Holy Door in one of the four basilicas in Rome, three basilicas of the Holy Land (Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem and the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth). ) or any other place chosen by the local bishop. The pilgrimage “must retain its symbolic power to show a strong desire for conversion and reconciliation,” the Vatican document said.

In addition to pilgrimage, a visit to the site of the Jubilee will give the faithful the opportunity to taste God’s mercy: “There they will spend time in Eucharistic adoration and meditation, ending with the ‘Our Father’. Credit and the calling of Mary, Mother of God.” The document includes already well-known pilgrimage sites, as well as some 10 Roman churches, two basilicas of Assisi, local and international holy sites, and a place whatever the bishop chooses.

Those who cannot move for legitimate reasons “will receive the indifference of the Jubilee under the same conditions, being united spiritually with the faithful presence, especially when the words of the Pope and bishops of bishops are broadcast by the media”.

In addition to pilgrimages or visits to holy places, “the faithful will be able to obtain Jubilee concessions by actively participating in missions, retreats or formation gatherings on the texts of the Second Vatican Council and the Questions of the Catholic Church” .

Regarding works of mercy, the faithful are asked “by the example and command of Christ” to rediscover works of mercy for the body (feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, welcoming strangers , helping the sick, visiting the prisoners, burying the dead), as well as works of mercy for the soul (giving advice to those in doubt, teaching the ignorant, warning to sinners, comforting those who are sad, forgiving trespassers, being patient with unprofitable people, and praying to God for the living and the dead). By performing these works of mercy and observing the appropriate spiritual conditions, the believers will be able to attain complete happiness time and time again or even daily.

The document also talks about the importance of reconciliation, in particular, asking believers to rediscover “the value of reconciliation on Friday, avoiding unnecessary entertainment or excessive consumption for at least one day.”

Bishops are also advised to have access to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, for example by publishing and extending the times when priests are available for reconciliation with God. Bishops are reminded that it is pastorally desirable to hear confessions during the celebration of Holy Mass.

Finally, full concessions will be available either to you or to souls in purgatory. “The vengeance of the Jubilee, thanks to your prayer, is especially for those who went before us, so that they may receive full mercy,” the document issued by the Apostle Penitentiary.
