Condé-sur-l’Escaut. Albert Huré, the tireless lottery host, is gone

The crowd gathered in the church of Saint-Wasnon, on this first Thursday of the year, testifies to the popularity of the character. “There were almost more people than for Linda de Suza”smiles his daughter Christelle.

A smile and humor immediately come to mind among friends of Albert Huré when they think back to the memories shared with this local figure, appreciated by all who knew him.

Adopted by Macou

Originally from Le Havre, Albert traveled extensively across the country before settling in Condé-sur-l’Escaut. “My father was a store manager. We sent him to straighten the sinking stores”details Christelle.

This is how he arrived in Macou with his family in 1979 to take charge of the CCPM (Central Cooperative of Mining Personnel). “My brother was going back to college, so he decided we would stay here.”

Settling on the land of his parents, both born in the region, which happens almost naturally. “We arrived one evening from Paris, the neighbors brought us a quiche so that we could eat. That says a lot about the state of mind.” Outside of his profession, Albert is passionate about local life and his hobbies.

A man invested in local life

When free radios hit the airwaves in 1981, he couldn’t resist the urge to set foot there and set up Radio Beffroi, which would become Radio Beffroi Nostalgie. At the same time, he helps associations through his role as municipal councilor, or in a more personal way.

This is how he took over the presidency of the Raismes-Sabatier Football Club for several years. But what will be remembered above all with Albert are his famous lotteries.

Lotto as a way of life

José Deregnaucourt, his lifelong friend, knew them from the start. “First, with his job, he only did it here and there. But afterwards, it was a big hundred a year. Every weekend and everywhere, a real enthusiast.”

José no longer counts the anecdotes, giggles and adventures experienced with his sidekick. “He was my great friend, I remember the incredible prizes that we would look for together for the lottos. In recent years, I have seen him fight with incredible courage against the disease.

He assures her, the balls will continue to spin with the same good humor, in her memory. “The Association of lotoists of Valenciennes will take over!”

A man of challenge, Albert fought hard to see his two great-grandchildren, Ného and Eloa, grow up. “We live near Avignon now, adds Christine. But my daughter Emily chose to come and study in Valenciennes to take care of him.”

In the church, the voice of Stevie Wonder resounds. The song “I just called to say I love you” accompanies his last trip.“When he was working, my mother played the records on the radio. There were no cell phones back then. When she wanted him to call her, she would play that track, maybe two or three times in the same hour.” This time, Albert left to join Germaine for eternity.

Next lotto meetings on Saturday 28 (5 p.m.) and Sunday 29 January (2:30 p.m.) in Fresnes-sur-Escaut, organized by the Balle d’or and the ALV.
