Concerts of the ‘International Medieval Music Course’ in Music at the Cathedral |

Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 9:00 p.m.

Coinciding with the realization of the International Course of Medieval Music that is being developed in the Cathedral of Cuenca taught by the teacher Cristina Alis Raurich and framed in the XII Edition 2022 of ‘Música en la Catedral’, two concerts will take place.

The first of them the Friday, August 12 at 9:00 p.m.. will be borne by Cristina Alís Raurich, portable organ and positive organ and Bruno Bonhoure, singing. With a program entitled songs to remember, this concert is an unusual and unorthodox proposal both for the repertoire and for its presentation on stage. It puts aside two repertoires that initially at first glance have little to do with each other. One is polyphony of the s. XV, and the other are songs from the s. XX. However, these five centuries of distance are not capable of erasing from history a common denominator full of coherence for this program: the same essence, and the same destiny, which is to be musical successes of its time.

The second of the concerts framed in this course will take place the following day, the Saturday, August 13 also at 9:00 p.m. in which the participants in the Medieval Music Course will prepare with professor Cristina Alís Raurich a program entitled: Very great wonder: music for the birth of a temple. And it is that the date of this concert takes place only two days before the anniversary of the consecration of the Cathedral (August 15, 1196). This date also coincides with the Assumption of the Virgin. The concert is a triangulation of themes: works related to the history of Castilla-La Mancha, works related to the Marian cult and works related to the cathedral and its consecration liturgy. For this occasion, the repertoires of the two modules will converge: Songs of Santa Maria, Intabulations to the organ and those of the songs for the consecration of a church.

The XII Edition 2022 of ‘Music in the Cathedral’ is an event that, in its twelfth year, is organized by the Cathedral of Cuenca. It is possible thanks to the sponsorship of the ACS Foundation, the ‘Gil de Albornoz’ University Board, the University of Castilla-La Mancha and the Globalcaja Cuenca Foundation. This year it also has the special collaboration of the Frédéric Desmottes Organ Workshop and Eric Brottier, owner of the Anaya-Brottier organ. They are the Principal Organist of the Cathedral of Cuenca, Carlos Arturo Guerra Parra, and the organist and harpsichordist, Lucie Žáková, who collaborate with the Cathedral in the design of the annual program and activities of ‘Music in the Cathedral’.

Tickets for the concerts at a price of €10 and subscriptions at a price of €54 are already on sale at the box office of the Cathedral, the Museo Tesoro and the Church of S. Pedro, as well as at the Cathedral online ticket sales page. The special subscription price for Friends of the Cathedral is €24.
