Concerts in Paris Celebrate Bulgarian National Day with Church Slavonic Music and Orpheus-inspired Performances

The two concerts in Paris, which took place a few days ago, were organized on the occasion of the Bulgarian National Day on March 3rd by two associations for Bulgarian-French cultural exchange – the art gallery “Constantin” under the direction of Bulgarian doctors Dr. Konstantin Nikolow and his wife Dr. Elena Radeva-Nikolova and the “Artavenir” association headed by Jordanka Kostadinova.

The concert “Secrets from distant times” in the church “Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia” in the French capital presented fifteen works of Church Slavonic music by Bulgarian and Russian composers.

During the second event under the motto “The Songs of Orpheus” works by Bulgarian composers Ivan Valev, Krassimir Kyurkchiysky, Ivan Spasov and others were performed in the American church in Paris.

“I am extremely pleased that we had the opportunity to present to the French audience some of the choral works of Bulgarian authors as well as my work as a long-time conductor of this choir,” said Prof. Burajiev, director and conductor of the oldest student choir in Bulgaria.

As a wonderful example of the mastery of the Academic Folk Choir, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, we offer you one of the last studio recordings of the ensemble under the direction of Kostadin Buradzhiev – the folk song “Lalitsa is late”” in the arrangement by Kiril Stefanow, soloist is Janitsa Stamenova.
