The concert “Vasks and Vaughan-Williams “Sea Symphony”” is played live from the Riga Dome. Composer Pēteris Vasks describes the piece Musica serena as a “nostalgic autumn landscape, meaningful and peaceful perception”. Enveloped within the manuscript is the peace that a person can only experience by fully surrendering to merging with nature. On the other hand, Vaughan-Williams composed the first, but unnumbered “Symphony of the Sea” for six years, and although it was followed by eight more bright and diverse examples of the genre, the work devoted to power and majesty of the sea is also the most monumental in many respects. Finnish soprano Silja Ālto, baritone Rihards Millers and singers of the State Academic Choir “Latvija” will take the stage together with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra under the leadership of Chief Conductor Tarmo Peltokoski.
