On July 24, Ventspils will celebrate the two-year anniversary of the concert hall “Latvija” with a set of events, in honor of which a new production with the ecclesiastical name “Apollo. Our Directorate” has been made, the representatives of the concert hall informed.
Music and performing arts experience “Apollo. The authors of “Our Directorate” explained that it would be Igor Stravinsky’s ballet “Apollons” a “new idea” – a transfer of composer Platon Buravick’s musical score to the ensemble together oboist Renāte Lodziņa and guitarist Matīss Čudars, but dances by Rūdolfs Gediņš (Apollons), Rūta Pūce (Kalliope), Ramona Levane (Polyhymny) and Edvards Kurmiņš (Terpsihora).
“Our collaboration is a new look at Stravinsky’s wishes in a new time and from a new angle.
For both the performers and, to a certain extent, the audience, it will be like submitting to the relationship between music and the physicality of bodies, succumbing to the power of the muses and the search for stability in today’s shaky space. ”
choreographer Agate Bankava told about the upcoming event on July 24.
One of the versions of the original name of the ballet, awkwardly translated through several foreign languages, could be “Apollo – the director of the muse”. Rethinking this work in music, movement and space, as well as trying to imprint today’s space in the shell of nuts, which is this new work, we came up with a bit of a cunning word game in the title. “Our” or “muse’s” management is perhaps as much a reference to an institution without gods and leaders that is so characteristic of the 21st century as the newly introduced barbarism – the “direction” chosen by us, the creative team, to negotiate the excess today, “added the concert hall” Latvija ” artistic director Mick Magone.
At the end of the evening, a trio concert of the outstanding Norwegian trumpet player Nils Petter Molvær will take place on the open-air stage of the concert hall, but a duo of drummer Ivars Arutjunjans and saxophonist Kārlis Auziņš will play music.
In the portrait gallery located in the Big Square, visitors will have the opportunity to experience close-ups of the events implemented in winter and spring by actor Gundars Āboliņš, musicians Magdalena Geka, Ieva Saliete, Ieva Parša, Arvīds Kazlauskas and the vocal group “Putni”.
