Concert for Peace and Hope

With a benefit concert initiated jointly with the Saxon Semperoper Foundation, the Semperoper Dresden and the Frauenkirche Dresden Foundation would like to send out a sign of hope for the people affected by the war in Ukraine on Saturday, May 21, 2022.

The concert in the Frauenkirche at 7 p.m. is not only aimed at everyone who feels solidarity with the people in Ukraine, but above all at those fleeing the war zone and the numerous helpers who are at their side.

The event in German and Ukrainian takes place under the patronage of the Saxon Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Barbara Klepsch: »The idea of the Semperoper and the Saxon Semperoper Foundation to organize such a thank you and benefit concert together with the Frauenkirche Dresden Foundation was mine immediately an affair of the heart. It is a wonderful sign for me to be able to carry the message of cohesion, hope and peace out into the world with the means of music. I would be happy to take on the patronage for this.«

Numerous artists, including Georg Zeppenfeld, followed the initiative in order to lend their musical voice to the appeal for humanity and for peace with their contribution. The program includes Johann Christoph Bach’s lament »How are you then, o God, inflamed in anger towards me«, the string quintet in G major op. 111 by Johannes Brahms and works by Ukrainian composers such as Semen Hulak-Artemowskyi, Hryhorij Altschewskyj and Myroslav Skoryk.

The event will be moderated by the artistic director of the Semperoper Dresden, Peter Theiler. The welcoming speech will be held by Sebastian Hecht, Head of the Culture and Tourism Division of the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism.
