The parliamentary groups of GrienLinks, PvdA, SP, D66 and PvdD are concerned about the large increase in the number of Parkinson’s patients in Fryslân. They call on the council, among other things, to cooperate on a Parkinson’s map for Fryslân. The parties asked questions to the council on November 2.
Published on October 30 Omrop Fryslân an article about the growing number of Parkinson’s patients in Fryslân, among others. According to the article, the number of patients with Parkinson’s has increased sharply in recent years: from 1,500 Parkinson’s patients in 2010 to 2,600 now. That is a growth of 58%. According to various studies, there are strong indications that the risk of someone developing Parkinson’s is increased by substances that are bad for humans. Examples of this are particulate matter and heavy metals emitted by industries. There are also strong indications that people who come into contact with pesticides have an increased risk of developing the disease. In France, for example, Parkinson’s has been classified as an occupational disease for farmers.
Jochem Knol on behalf of the five parties: “Neurologists in our country are busy drawing up a Parkinson’s map. Such a map is a tool to gain insight into whether there is a relationship with the environment, and if so, in which environment the risk of developing Parkinson’s is greatest. Parkinson’s is a serious disease. The map can help the government to take targeted measures to reduce the risk of developing Parkinson’s. With targeted preventive measures we can hopefully ensure that fewer people contract this nasty disease.”
The parties ask the province, among other things, to actively cooperate in drawing up such a map. They also ask that the alarming figures be brought to the attention of Seker en Sûn, the collaboration project in Fryslân for care and welfare.
