REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, INDRAMAYU — Cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) in Indramayu Regency remain high even though the long dry season is currently hitting. The public is also advised to continue to be alert to the emergence of various diseases.
Head of the Indramayu District Health Service, Wawan Ridwan, said that the case DBD In Indramayu Regency last year there were 220 incidents. Whereas dengue fever cases from January – September 2023 there have been 360 incidents.
“The number of dengue fever cases as of last September was almost double compared to last year. It is feared that by the end of the year it will increase even more,” said Wawan, when met in his office, Tuesday (3/10/2023).
Wawan also admitted that he was surprised by the increase in dengue cases in the middle of a long dry season like now. Even though the peak of dengue fever cases occurs during the rainy season, there are still dengue fever cases to this day.
“This is a new phenomenon,” said Wawan.
Wawan added, although dengue cases continue to emerge, the death rate due to the disease which is transmitted via the Aedes aegypti mosquito is relatively small. He also reminded the public to remain alert.
Awareness of dengue fever can be done by carrying out mosquito nest eradication (PSN) movements through 3M Plus. Namely, draining water reservoirs, tightly closing water reservoirs, and recycling economically valuable waste, which has the potential to become a breeding ground for dengue fever mosquitoes.
Meanwhile, the Plus is an additional preventive measure. These include keeping fish that eat mosquito larvae, installing wire mesh on windows and ventilation, placing used clothes in closed containers and applying larvicide to water reservoirs that are difficult to drain.
Not only dengue fever, Wawan also asked the public to be aware of the emergence of disease during the dry season. Like for example diarrhea. Apart from that, hot weather due to the dry season accompanied by the El Nino phenomenon also often causes other diseases, including in children. Therefore, people are asked to maintain adequate drinking water intake and avoid direct sunlight.
“Statistically, we have not been able to report an increase in illnesses in children during this dry season. But we must be aware of the impact of hot weather on children,” said Wawan.
