Jakarta –
The burning of the Koran has become widespread and has sparked anger among Muslims around the world. This makes the Prime Minister (PM) Sweden Ulf Kristersson is feeling anxious.
PM Sweden Ulf Kristersson is known to admit that he is ‘very worried’ about the consequences that might occur, if more protests involving the blasphemy of the Koran are held in his country. This concern was expressed when the anger of Muslims increased due to a series of acts of burning the Koran.
Reported by Reuters, Friday (28/7/2023), attacks on the Koran that have occurred in Sweden and Denmark recently have offended many Muslim-majority countries, including Turkey, whose support is needed by Stockholm to join the Atlantic Treaty Organization. North (NATO).
Sweden is known to be seeking to join the NATO alliance following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine since February 2022.
Kristersson told Swedish news agency TT that a further request had been made to the police for permission to stage protests where another desecration of the Koran was planned.
Kristersson assesses that if this is granted, there will be a serious risk.
“If that is granted, we will have days where there is a clear risk that something serious will happen. I am very worried about what might happen,” Kristersson said in an interview with TT.
On July 20, the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, was attacked and burned by demonstrators who were angry with the plan to burn the Koran.
