[이데일리 김유성 기자] Kim Seong-ju, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, raised suspicions that the Armed Forces Day event planning team requested donations through the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This means that they requested sponsorship from a company, saying they had insufficient budget. Kim Seong-ju, Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker According to Representative Kim’s office on the 27th, the Ministry of National Defense has allocated a total budget of 10.19 billion won for the 75th Armed Forces Day street parade event. However, due to a lack of budget, the event planning team even received donations and sponsorships from external organizations, organizations, and companies.
An official from Assemblyman Kim’s office explained, “There are suspicions that during this process, sponsorship was requested from corporations and the financial sector, and certain financial institutions provided sponsorship for lobbying purposes,” adding, “The controversy is expected to grow further.”
The amount of donations identified by Rep. Kim’s office includes 20 million won from the Military Mutual Aid Association and 10 million won from Kookmin Bank. The total was found to be 35 million won.
It was also revealed that sponsorship items worth hundreds of millions of won were received from nine companies. Last July, we signed a donation agreement with Woori Bank worth a total of 500 million won, and on August 30, we received clothing and cosmetics for soldiers.
The Ministry of National Defense is in the position that there is no problem in that such donations and sponsorships have been customary in the past. The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry revealed that some employees arbitrarily requested product sponsorship without a request from the Ministry of National Defense.
However, Rep. Kim Seong-ju pointed out, “It is not appropriate for the Ministry of National Defense, which executes a budget of tens of trillions of won per year, to receive hundreds of millions of won in donations and sponsorships from various companies under the pretext of the Armed Forces Day event and then execute them outside of the budget.” This is because it is right to cover it through the budget.
Rep. Kim said, “In particular, a thorough investigation is needed to determine whether sponsorships and donated items that have been customarily received from companies for several years have been voluntarily deposited, how they were approved, and whether execution and management for use and disposal of remaining items is being properly conducted. “He pointed out.
