The elected officials denounce the situation
The elected officials of the MRC de Montcalm are crying out for the educational success of young people, jeopardized by the inadequacy, or even the absence, of transportation services for summer courses.
Alerted by schools in the territory, concerned about the situation, the council of elected officials of the MRC de Montcalm publicly denounces the current situation concerning the inadequate supply of school transportation for summer courses on its territory. More than a simple logistical issue, this problem “endangers the educational success of students in the region, compromising their access to quality education, obtaining their diploma and/or the course necessary for access to a higher school level”, it is described.
Like what has been observed in recent school years in the MRC de Montcalm, the supply of school transportation promises to be insufficient, or even non-existent, in some cases, for summer courses. A situation deemed unacceptable by elected officials, considering that school transport is an essential link in the education system. However, in the current situation, the council regrets that the responsible authorities do not allow students to get to class safely and efficiently, adding a burden to families and compromising success.
“It is abnormal that schools approach us, because they are worried about the lack of funding from the Samares School Service Center for transportation for their summer courses. Transportation is expensive, but it’s nothing compared to the cost of dropping out of school, which represents an exorbitant social bill that mortgages our collective future. We have a vast territory and we have young people facing considerable academic challenges. Our young people are deprived of the opportunity to participate in summer schools crucial to their educational journey. These additional courses offer students the opportunity to consolidate their knowledge, catch up or even get ahead of the academic program. They play a decisive role in educational success and allow students to develop their full potential. We are going out today, but above all we are crying out for the competent authorities to act and take their responsibilities,” declared the prefect of the MRC de Montcalm, Patrick Massé, on behalf of all his colleagues. and colleagues at the council table.
Immediate measures demanded
Driven by a sense of collective responsibility with regard to the education of young Montcalmois, elected officials unite their voices to challenge the competent authorities, in particular the bodies responsible for school transportation, namely the Center de services scolaire Les Samares and the Ministère of Education, to take immediate action to resolve this issue. “It is essential to guarantee adequate transport for students who wish to participate in summer courses, in order to preserve their educational success, their motivation and their personal development”, we said in a press release.
At the same time, the council is seeking the support of the community, parents, teachers and all local stakeholders in order to raise awareness of this critical situation and demand rapid and effective solutions. “Together, it is possible to make our voices heard and defend the fundamental educational rights of our students. »
At the time of publication, the newspaper was awaiting comments from the Center de services scolaire des Samares regarding this situation. More details will follow…
