Nearly three-quarters of the American people expressed concern about US President Joe Biden’s current physical and mental abilities to perform his duties, depending on his age.
A new poll conducted by CNN revealed negative opinions about Biden’s age and performance in office.
While 73% of respondents said they believe Biden’s age affects his current level of physical and mental ability, 76% said they are greatly concerned that it will negatively impact his ability to serve another term if re-elected.
While 60 percent of Democrats surveyed indicated that Biden’s age would have a potential impact on the 2024 presidential election, 61 percent expressed serious concerns about his ability to serve another term as president if re-elected.
If re-elected, Biden will be 82 years old in January 2025, when he is sworn in for his second term.
In addition to President Biden’s age, the poll also assessed his popularity, job desirability, and performance in office.
Among respondents, the percentage of approval of Biden’s performance in office reached 39 percent, while the percentage of those who believe that his policies have worsened economic conditions has increased by 8 points since last fall, to 58 percent.
While 70% of respondents said things were going poorly in the country and that this situation had been constant throughout most of Biden’s time in office, 51% said the government should do more to solve the country’s problems.
As for personal perceptions of Biden, 58 percent of participants said that they had a negative impression of him, while only 33 percent described him as someone they are proud to see as president.
In the latest poll, public confidence in Biden fell 7 percentage points from March to 28%, while his sense of stamina and sharpness to act effectively as president was 26%, down 6 percentage points from March.
A total of 1,503 adults, including 1,259 registered voters, participated in the survey from August 25 to 31.
