A large Jewish community resides in Sarcelles, in Val-d’Oise. A community worried about seeing the conflict exported to the city, five days after Hamas’ aggression against Israel.

Since the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas on Saturday, security around places of worship and Jewish schools has been reinforced throughout France. And the town of Sarcelles, where “there is a large Jewish community” in the words of the mayor, is no exception.
Patrick Haddad explained that the police presence had also increased in his town. “This helps to psychologically reassure the parents of students and the Jewish community which is legitimately worried“, explained the mayor of Sarcelles.
A security desired in particular by the Minister of Education, Gabriel Attal, visiting this Wednesday morning in the private Jewish school Ozar Atorah, located in this commune of Val-d’Oise. In the presence of the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, he explained that alerts had been issued and that students of Jewish faiths had “may have been the subject of assault in their establishment. […] From this point of view, we will be totally intractable, we will not let anything go“, he insisted.
Gabriel Attal added that he had requested on Tuesday that the public prosecutor “be informed of an attack of which a high school student was the victim in Ile-de-France“, whose t-shirt was torn off by a friend.
The Minister of the Interior, for his part, specified that “more than 20 arrests“linked to anti-Semitic acts had taken place since Saturday, which he estimates at around fifty, including “some very serious“.
Some “500 places – schools, synagogues, places where French people of Jewish faith are used to going, living within our Republic – are now protected by 10,000 police officers and gendarmes“, underlined Gérald Darmanin.
The day before, the Minister of the Interior had cited as examples of anti-Semitic acts “people who go in front of synagogues, many, shouting threats“, of the “drones that enter schoolyards with a camera” or “slogans, tags, threatening letters“.
