TANJUNG REDEB, PORTALBERAU- It is known that currently Covid-19 has flared up again. This is a concern for the Berau Regency Government, especially for the Berau Health Service (Dinkes) and the Berau Culture and Tourism Service (Disbudpar) in monitoring tourists visiting Berau Regency during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays.
Acting Head of the Berau Health Service (Dinkes), Halijah, appealed to the public or tourists to maintain health protocols, ahead of the 2024 New Year celebrations. This is because until now the Covid-19 outbreak has not completely disappeared.
He said, maintaining health protocols (prokes) is the responsibility of all parties, including the community. So it cannot be handed over only to the Health Department or Community Health Center.
“The threat of an outbreak is still there, what’s wrong with being alert,” said Halijah.
He continued, this case had not yet been found in Berau. However, vigilance is still carried out, especially ahead of big holiday celebrations where many people gather. Not to mention, some time ago, one child in Teluk Bayur District tested positive for diphtheria.
“Yesterday it was suspected, and positive. “His child died,” he said.
However, as is known, Covid-19 cases in East Kalimantan are still occurring. So it is worrying that there will be a spike. Although on the one hand, Dr Abdul Rivai Hospital still has sufficient space and adequate equipment. However, if the spike occurs again like before. So it will be certain that restrictions on community activities will be implemented.
“We both don’t want to take risks, so this must be a concern,” he said.
Apart from disciplined health protocols, Halijah also encouraged the public, especially vulnerable groups, to hasten Covid-19 vaccination, both complete and booster doses.
“Get a booster vaccination, until the end of the year it will still be free for the whole community. “Next year, it will only be for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and people with comorbidities and people who have problems with the immune system,” he said.
Meanwhile, when met separately, the Head of the Destination Division of the Berau Culture and Tourism Service (Disbudpar), Samsiah Nawir, said that his party had predicted that there would be a surge in tourists in the final holidays of 2023.
So, his party will implement health protocols for tourists to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the future.
“Our current effort is to implement health protocols in tourism destinations,” he said.
Apart from that, Samsiah admitted, his party will ask the management of tourist attractions to collect data for every visitor who comes.
“As a follow-up, we will distribute circular letters to managers,” he concluded. (Yud/Ded)
