The GGD in Amsterdam is concerned about the rapid increase in the number of positive corona tests in the city. “I really feel that public health is at risk,” says Yvonne van Duijnhoven, head of infectious diseases. AT5.
The number of positive corona tests among Amsterdammers has increased by 57 percent in a week. In addition to infections among young people, infections among older people are also on the increase.
Nursing homes don’t close again
“Nursing homes were closed to visitors during the first lockdown, but we have to prevent that this time”, says Van Duijnhoven. “People have a need for social contact, so I hope that we do not have to completely reduce the visitor regulations.”
She also doesn’t think it will come to that. “With everything we’ve learned from the first wave, I don’t think that’s necessary. Nursing homes are more alert and know better how to act.”
The GGD in Amsterdam currently has a capacity of 3,200 tests per day. People from outside the city also make this according to that NH News use of. The goal is to be able to test people within a day. That is why new test locations are still being opened.
