EVO 2023 fighting game tournament is using Sony Playstation 5 Some competitors have started reporting USB ports melting due to overheating in some cases. With images and witnesses backing up the stories, there seems to be some merit to the idea that a lack of heat dissipation could cause the PS5’s critical I/O ports to melt while in action.
With EVO 2023 going on Street Fighter 6In their competitive debut, it was important for the attendees to be on top of their game. According to EVO 2023 competitors, several PS5 consoles have experienced USB port failures due to severe lack of heat dissipation, resulting in crashes. With plenty of reports and photos to show, like the one Eduardo Cuervo posted on Twitter, it certainly looks like something went awry in the tournament, destroying both PS5s and connected cables in one fell swoop. Although it is currently unclear what causes all these problems, they are certainly widespread enough to cause concern.
People have been posting on Reddit about the issue as well, with SyrupyCereal sharing their own picture of a melted USB cable. With PS5 console sales far outpacing Xbox Series X/S, the potential for this issue to spread is huge, and Sony has yet to chime in with the official report. It’s possible that continually plugging and unplugging devices on the EVO 2023 may have somehow caused the issue, but more information is pending.
On the face of it, the current issue with PS5 USB meltdowns might remind some gamers of last year’s Nvidia GPU power cables melting in their sockets. While these issues are relatively similar, these issues are caused by users not fully connecting the cables, and it’s unlikely that a similar issue was widespread at EVO 2023. Instead, it seems likely that the issue is with the PS5 hardware itself.
However, it’s not all bad news at EVO 2023. The stunning Blind Tournament victory Street Fighter 6 He became a viral player, for example, showing how powerful and important these events are. If they continue to cause cable and console breakdowns, that could very well change and regulators may end up using a console other than the PS5 to prevent further problems.
