Concern in San José before presidential elections – Telemundo Bay Area 48

Residents of San José expressed their feelings regarding the results of the presidential elections that took place on Tuesday.

“A kind of sadness, right? that Harris didn’t really win,” said resident Antonio Velázquez.

“Optimistic, because we hope that this government will lead us to a better economy and security,” said Alejandro Fajardo, resident.

However, opinions are mixed, with some anticipating positive change.

“I hope that the country is better in the economy, in everything because really the basic things that are food are really expensive, the income goes up a lot,” said Irma Filio, resident.

While others fear what it could mean.

“The concern we have is the immigration part because it is a situation that affects us all,” said Vilma del Rosario López, resident.

“In the other presidency that Donald Trump had, they did send a lot of migration, here exactly, many came here too and there were many raids,” recalled Antonio Velázquez, resident.

In these moments of uncertainty, managing emotions will be key.

“I know that’s one thing that scares a lot of people, because of what President Trump said that it was going to be a deportation. So I would tell you not to worry about that now, because you don’t know how things are going to be and think more about your day to day life,” explained Claudio Silva, family and couples therapist.

Think about the present and look for how to face the results to deal with post-election emotions.

“Look for what you like to do and things that are good for you to claim and things that are good for your health, like doing physical exercise, trying to sleep well, having a good diet,” Silva recommended.

And show empathy for others, even if they don’t share our opinion.

“If you have someone you love and this person has a different thought than you, try not to talk about politics with them, but enjoy this relationship that you have with this person,” said Silva.

Empathy, according to some residents, will be essential in this new political chapter.

“This country was formed by immigrants and we continue to come to bring our help to this country, so that they do not only see us as criminals who come to harm the country but rather they see us as those who come to contribute not only to the country but for our families,” added Rosa María Bailón, resident.

“The hope is that we are as we are today, truly working in this country that has given us many opportunities that do not make as many changes as has been speculated,” emphasized Vilma del Rosario López.
