Researchers have found that those who exercise in just two days are less likely to suffer from heart disease and stroke than those who perform these exercises throughout the week.
According to the study, conducted by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, compensating for a lack of activity on the weekend can improve cardiovascular health.
“Our findings suggest that efforts to improve physical activity, even if concentrated within one to two days of the week, are beneficial in reducing the risk of heart disease,” said Patrick Elinor, a cardiologist at Massachusetts Hospital. And blood vessels. It seems that the most important thing is the overall volume of activity, not the pattern.”
The researchers analyzed the medical records of nearly 90,000 people enrolled in a Biobank project in the UK, after they studied their physical activity for a full week.
The researchers, led by cardiologist Dr. Shan Khurshid, found that the risk of heart attack was 27 percent lower for weekend exercisers and 35 percent lower for those who spaced out their workouts throughout the week.
And when the researchers looked at heart failure, the risk was 38 and 36 percent lower for weekend exercisers and those maintaining regular exercise, respectively.
As for the risk of atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat), the results were lower by 22 and 19 percent, as was the case for stroke, which was lower by 21 and 17 percent, respectively.
The researchers concluded in the study, the results of which were published in the journal JAMA, that physical activity concentrated within one to two days was similarly associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease for those who exercised more regularly and over more days a week.
