Companies fight breast cancer in Mexico with the Tócate Foundation

- According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), breast cancer is a highly prevalent public health problem in Mexico, with approximately 30,000 new cases reported each year.
- During 2022, 23,790 cases and 7,888 deaths were reported due to this disease in the population aged 20 years and older.
The Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (CONCANACO SERVYTUR) and the Tócate Foundation presented the Pink Triangle award, the first recognition to companies and businesses in the country for their active commitment to the early detection of breast cancer.
This certification seeks to promote responsible practices in the early detection of breast cancer in the business environment. Interested companies can certify their commitment by implementing educational and prevention programs for their employees, as well as promoting screening tests such as mammograms and ultrasounds.
During the delivery of the Pink Triangle BadgeOctavio de la Torre, president of CONCANACO SERVYTUR, highlighted the importance of the fight against breast cancer, underlining the urgency of early detection and prevention. He mentioned that in Mexico, this disease is the main cause of death among women, with more than 29,000 new cases diagnosed annually and close to 7,000 deaths.
She shared the story of her mother, María de la Luz, a case that reflects the consequences of not carrying out check-ups on time, and stressed that this distinction seeks to raise awareness among companies and families about the importance of preventing breast cancer.
He also stressed that the Pink Triangle It symbolizes three essential pillars: gender equity, corporate social responsibility, and commitment to the 2030 agenda. In her speech, she recognized committed companies such as Avasa and its 4 brands: Hertz México, Dollar Rent a Car México, Thrifty Car Rental México & FireFly Car Rental México; Bepenss; HEINEKEN México, Southeast Region; Hotel Camino Real Mérida; Procesadora Cazola and TLC Asociados SC., as well as the Confederation, thus reaffirming the organization’s commitment to continue promoting initiatives that improve the health and well-being of society, remembering that, together, each action can save lives and make a significant difference.
She also said that the National Cancer Institute (INCan) highlights that risk factors for breast cancer include family history and age. The probability of developing breast cancer increases with age, with a higher incidence in women between 40 and 60 years of age, so these alliances will promote preventive schemes that can save lives.
Specialists recommend that women undergo an annual mammogram and ultrasound starting at age 40, and women with a family history should begin these studies starting at age 35.
Currently, just over 15% of cases are detected at stage 1, while more than 70% of diagnoses correspond to locally advanced tumors, which highlights the need for greater awareness and prevention, according to data from INCan.
In addition, in her speech, the Vice President of Women Entrepreneurs, Daniela Martínez, stated that the aim is to certify companies, not only to raise awareness about the importance of early detection, but also to foster an environment of support and prevention within organizations.
He explained that the certification provided by the Confederation and the Tócate Foundation will be a recognition of the efforts of companies to promote the health and well-being of their employees.
For her part, Ms. Alejandra Gutiérrez, President and founder of Fundación Tócate México, highlighted the collaboration carried out between the most structured organization in the country, which is why she emphasized the importance of collaboration.
