Concacaf W Champions Cup: When and at what time do Liga MX Femenil teams play?

In recent years, women’s soccer in Mexico has made significant progress thanks to the Liga MX Femenil, seeing results in both the junior and senior teams. Given this, the owners of the local teams are looking to continue expanding the market in order to enter the Concacaf W Champions Cup, where we will be able to see the Mexican women seek their first international championship.

After the failure of the men’s institutions, the summer continues to bring us sporting events, only this time it will be the Aztec soccer players who will make their debut in what is expected to be one of the most competitive tournaments in the area and help improve the level of soccer in our country.

To represent Mexico we will have Tigres, Monterrey and América, the three teams considered the strongest in the Liga MX Femenil and that will compete against various institutions from the Concacaf leagues: three from the United States and a club from four other countries: Canada, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Panama.

The event, despite being the first to be organized in the northern part of the continent, will have as its prize the ticket to the debut of the Women’s Club World Cup that FIFA is organizing and will take place in 2026, so it is very important to obtain the trophy for the best team if the aim is to improve the quality of Mexican women’s soccer.

Although the creation of a professional platform for women soccer lovers is still very young in our country, failures such as not winning the pass to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games due to preference for the Mexican senior team, have the managers and owners of the teams in debt to the fans who seek exposure outside the country with this new project.

Another of the darkest episodes occurred in the last Summer Cup, a tournament in which teams from the Liga MX Femenil and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), considered one of the most competitive in the world, participated. Here Mexico sent its six best representatives: Chivas, Pachuca, Tijuana, Tigres, Monterrey and América, although none of them managed to make the grade.

And although an increase in the football level of the Aztec players has been seen, the reality was different after no team managed to advance to the decisive phases and the worst thing is that they did not achieve a single victory in their entire participation, with Rayadas and las Tuzas being the ones that achieved the least points, while the rest at least managed to get 3 points each due to draws, but that did not help them advance either.

The activity of the Aztec clubs will begin on August 22 and will end on October 17, when it will be determined who will play the decisive matches. Here is the calendar for the first date:

  • America vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite | Wednesday, August 22, 7:00 p.m. Ciudad de los Deportes Stadium, CDMX | broadcast on Disney+
  • Tigres vs Rayadas | Thursday, August 23, 7:00 p.m. University Stadium, NL | broadcast on Disney+

The Concacaf W Champions Cup has become the main objective for the three Mexican representatives who wish to reverse the bad streak they have had against their American counterparts.

With 10 invited teams divided into two groups and having to play round-trip matches, it is expected that Rayadas, Tigresas and Águilas can improve their participation in international tournaments by competing better. However, only the first two teams from each group will advance, but they will have to wait until May 2025 to be able to play a single match that will determine who will play in the final and determine the first Concacaf team to compete in the Women’s Club World Cup in history.
