The German-Russian impostor Anna Sorokin, who was sentenced to years in prison in New York, is free again. The 30-year-old was released on Thursday, New York state prison authorities confirmed. Sorokin herself published a photo on the online service Instagram showing her in a bed with sunglasses. “You cannot imagine how stressful the prison is,” she wrote.
The daughter of a Russian truck driver had given herself a new identity in the USA as a wealthy heiress and swindled a luxurious lifestyle at the expense of others. The total amount of the fraud was around $ 275,000 (equivalent to 227,000 euros).
Suites for free
According to the prosecutor, Sorokin was able to use clever lies and a self-confident demeanor to get tens of thousands of dollars in loans from various banks between November 2016 and August 2017, to travel for free in private planes and to live for months in luxury hotels in Manhattan in New York without them Pay bills.

The impostor, who appeared under the name Anna Delvey, was sentenced to between four and twelve years in May 2019. The convicted fraudster comes from a humble background. When she was 16, her family moved from Russia to Germany. In 2016, Sorokin came to the United States and crept into New York high society.
