Comtois and Beaudin to represent Canada at the World Hockey Championship

Hockey Canada on Friday unveiled its roster of 14 forwards, eight defensemen and three goalies for the event, which begins May 21.

Comtois had his best career NHL offensive season with 16 goals and 17 assists in 55 games in 2021 with the Anaheim Ducks.

For his part, Beaudin, a 21-year-old left-handed defenseman, has 2 goals and 4 assists in 19 games this season with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Canada will enter this tournament with a relatively young team. Only three players – goalkeeper Darcy Kuemper, defender Troy Stecher and striker Adam Henrique – have made it to the World Championship so far.

Then only 18 years old, goaltender Mike DiPietro was part of the Canadian squad in 2018, but he did not take part in any meeting.

Henrique and Stetcher were part of the team that won silver in Finland in 2019. The 2020 World Hockey Championship has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In addition, Michael Dyck has been appointed assistant coach, which means that he will support André Tourigny.

Canada will play its first game of the tournament on May 21 against host country Latvia.
