At Alza.cz, year-on-year growth in laptops is in the order of tens of percent, and in desktop gaming PCs with new Nvidia graphics cards, sales have doubled. “However, for both laptops and PCs, we register an excess of demand over supply. We expect that delays in deliveries and deteriorating availability of these products may also manifest themselves in the second quarter, ”said Alza spokeswoman Daniela Chovancová.

For example, at the end of February, new graphics with the GeForce RTX 3060 core began to be sold, and dozens of different models appeared on store shelves. Originally, they were announced prices starting just below the limit of nine thousand crowns. In domestic stores, however, improved models appeared with quieter cooling or an overclocked core for price tags around CZK 14,000.
–
Even the higher price tag did not prevent all available cards from selling out in less than a minute, as Novinky.cz has informed earlier. Due to the fact that the hunger for new graphics is really huge, they were immediately offered by dealers, even for almost CZK 40,000.

Mall.cz expects to address outages with laptops and essential peripherals such as mice, keyboards and monitors this quarter. The same problem also affects game consoles. “A partial improvement in availability will occur from April, for some models only in the second half of the year,” said spokeswoman Pavla Hobíková. In general, there is now a problem with the availability of laptops with a diagonal of 15.6 inches and with a lower demand for performance in the price level from 7,000 to 12,000 CZK.

According to the computer manufacturer Lenovo, LCD panels for laptops and desktop monitors are currently unavailable. This is due to increased sales of goods, where customers also buy monitors in bulk, which was not quite common before the pandemic.
–
The lack of panels is exacerbated by demand in the automotive industry, where there is greater interest in ten-inch screens for car displays. Other missing components are chips, the production of which does not meet the demand, not only for the production of personal computers, but also for passenger cars. Dell also experienced difficulties in supplying chips and graphics cards in the market due to increased demand.
–
The availability was also marked by a pandemic
“A significant reason for the delay in the delivery of products is the limited air traffic due to the pandemic, and thus the normal transport time is extended, and thus transport to the end customer,” said Lenika’s media representative in the Czech Republic Angelika Raisová.

The Dynabook brand also struggled with a shortage of products on the market. “Currently, however, we have solved this problem and, in cooperation with an authorized distributor, we have launched a new Satellite Pro C50-E model suitable for companies and students on a limited budget, and in about a month we will bring more new Tecra and Portégé professional notebooks,” added the regional manager. sales Stanka Plavšic.

In 2019, 909,000 desktop and laptop computers were sold in the Czech Republic. A year earlier it was 928,000 PCs. Figures for 2020 are not yet available.
