Computer attack on meat giant – no danger of Christmas ribs – VG

SENT OUT: The Christmas ribs have already been sent out to the stores, says Executive Vice President of Nortura, Kjell Rakkenes.

The Norwegian meat giant has been subjected to a computer attack. As a result of the attack, there is a temporary halt in the production of pigs, cattle and mutton. However, it does not affect the Christmas food, promises Executive Vice President Kjell Rakkenes.

– We had already run out of Christmas food before we discovered this attack. the consequence for the christmas food is minimal, if anything at all, says Rakkenes to VG.

It was Nortura’s IT systems that discovered the attack on Tuesday, the executive vice president explains.

– Then we closed all our IT systems and cut internet access. This means that the activity at our factories and warehouses is reduced.

The company reported the attack on its websites Tuesday night.

INVESTIGATOR: Kjell Rakkenes in Nortura says they are working to find out more about the attack on the group.

According to Rakkenes, all employees have been asked to come to work. No persons have been laid off as a result of the scaled-down activity.

– The production of chicken, turkey and eggs is almost normal. The same goes for cold cuts and sausages, he says.

Despite the fact that the Christmas food is secured, most slaughterhouses have temporarily stopped slaughtering four-legged animals such as pigs, sheep and cattle.

– We have stopped all imports of four-legged animals. There is some slaughter activity in some places, mainly of animals that were driven in before the incident. There are animals that have stood in our barns.

MEAT PRODUCTION: Nortura’s factory at Rudshøgda in Ringsaker municipality.

As a result of the attack, Nortura has decided to shut down IT systems and remove Internet access at its locations to minimize possible damage to systems and operations, they write in a press release.

The attack leads to reduced activity at the factories, they further state.

Nortura is a collaboration with around 5,000 employees, and was formed as a result of a merger of Gilde and Prior in 2006.

– We are now working to get a complete overview of the situation and the extent, as well as make plans to deal with the consequences of the situation that has arisen. The priority is securing data and stabilizing the systems, Nortura writes about the attack.

They have alerted police to the incident.
