They were up to a hundred people gathered in front of the Côte-d’Or prefecture in Dijon, Saturday January 16, 2021, to protest against the “global security” law. This is much less than during previous gatherings: more than 1,500 people demonstrated on Saturday, December 5, 2020.
“It is not the hundred people here who are going to make the government move, we need to be more numerous”, Benoît
This decline in mobilization over the weeks affected more than one among the demonstrators present rue de la Préfecture, in Dijon. “We do what we can but it’s not sure that the fight can resume“like last year, plague Elodie, 23 years old. A few meters from the young girl, Benoît, 60 years old, goes further.” _It is not the hundred people here who will move the government, we must be more numerous_.“
Some did not come “because of the cold. Others are exhausted after previous protests“, Elodie breathes.”It’s not a breath of hope, it’s just a lot of other things“, reassures the young girl.
A very poor hope of having the text withdrawn
A hundred people against the “global security” law, this is a first in Dijon. The previous demonstrations in December 2020 brought together up to 1,500 people. None of this for the first event of 2021.
The only thing that does not change is the request to withdraw the text. Only the opponents believe in it less strongly than at the beginning. “It’s hard to believe it again but if we didn’t believe it, we wouldn’t be here“, smiles Elodie, 23 years old.”We do the minimum we can do“, adds Benoît, but they don’t”want not stay silent without doing anything. _I can’t stay home without showing my opposition to this law_.“
Prohibition to demonstrate in the city center
The rally began around 11 a.m. in the the only area in downtown Dijon where demonstrations are allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., Saturday January 16, 2021. This is the consequence of a decision of the prefecture of Côte-d’Or, taken the day before.
