Composer and musician Alni Zaķi will be honored with a concert on Latvian Radio

On September 6 at 6 pm in the 1st studio of Latvian Radio with the program “Mirage Jazz Orchestra” program “Lifetime. Alnis Zaķis – 90” Latvian Radio 3 “Klasika” will open the new concert season. The first concert will feature original compositions and arrangements by Latvian jazz and popular music legend Alnis Zaķis, performed by singers Rūta Dūduma-Ķirse, Andris Ērglis and Normunds Rutulis. The achievements of Alnis Zaķis in the history of Latvian popular and jazz music cannot be overestimated – he is a symbol of an entire generation. To remember even the legendary “Microphone” song poll concerts, an integral part of which was the Latvian Radio Light and Pop Music Orchestra under his direction. The long-term work of the orchestra leader resulted in the excellent sound of the Radio Orchestra, which could be safely compared to the best jazz big bands in the world.

Aļņa Zaķis’ creative heritage is great – more than 60 songs, about 100 instrumental compositions, about 1000 arrangements, participation in the recording of several films, as well as countless concerts and recordings throughout the life of the radio. Although Zaķis was once a very popular and well-known personality, his musical heritage is not so widely known today, so the concerts in which his instrumental compositions, arrangements of compositions and songs have become classics are especially important, because this music is has formed a Latvian tradition of popular and jazz music.

“Mirage Jazz Orchestra”, conducted by Lauris Amantovs, is one of the brightest groups of its kind in Latvia, which has been operating for 18 years and has given countless concerts to true jazz fans and big band music lovers both in Latvia and abroad. The ensemble has performed together with many famous Latvian and foreign musicians, participated in TV and radio shows. Thanks to the participation of Latvia’s leading jazz musicians, the “Mirage Jazz Orchestra” ensemble is considered to be one of the main successors, collaborators and popularizers of the Latvian jazz tradition.

Further concerts of this year in the 1st studio of Latvian Radio:

On October 18, at 6 pm, he will perform ethno music of different nations group “Arcandella”, which unites singers Aiga Bokanova and Kārlis Saržants, pianist Rihards Plešanovs, double bassist Oskars Bokanovs, accordionists Rolands Zelčs and Māris Rozenfelds, as well as violinists Liene Brence and Konstantīns Paturskis. The concert will be conducted by Inga Saksone.

Will speak on November 8 at 6 p.m. saxophone quartet “Atoms”, but the special guest of the concert will be the poet Inga Gaile. The program includes premieres of new works by Latvian authors. The concert will be conducted by Anna Veismane.

There will be a concert on November 29 at 6 p.m. flutist Dita Krenberga, cellist Inga Ozola and pianist Sana Villeruša. The music of Latvian composers will also be honored in this program. Liene Jakovļeva will be in charge of the concert.

The music of Georg Friedrich Handel and his contemporaries will be broadcast live on Euroradio on December 19 at 4 pm harpsichordist Ieva Saliete, singer Ilze Grēvele-Skaraine, flutist Maija Kļaviņa and cellist Māra Botmane. The concert will be conducted by Orest Silabriedis.
