On Saturday, June 24th, Doris Brodbeck and Hans Stephani from the Aargau-Zürich-Schaffhausen Huguenots and Waldensian Trail Association installed the first plaque on the hiking trail sign in Windisch/Brugg. By the end of the month, all of the remaining 52 historical plaques will be in place. This closes the last gap on the 579 km long route. The tourist information boards in A5 format make orientation easier for long-distance hikers and day tourists.
information along the way
Many plaques also provide background information on the religious refugees of the time. This is how we learn that a little tree (coffin) was financed in Thayngen for a Waldensian child. In Thayngen, the conclusion of the signage will be celebrated with an international “Big Festival” on Sunday, September 24th. Registration is possible until the end of July via the homepage via-hugenotten.ch possible.
New hiking guide
The information along the way can be deepened in the new hiking guide by Florian Hitz “On the trail of the Huguenots and Waldensians. In 28 days from Geneva to Schaffhausen», which the Foundation VIA – On the trail of the Huguenots and Waldensians published in German and French in spring. It contains 28 route texts, three route variants and city tours in Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchâtel, Bern, Zurich and Schaffhausen. A historical overview and eleven thematic additional texts embed them in a broader context.
