Power of the People proposed yesterday (7th) to the National Assembly a bill to rearrange the law on the organization of government, with the centerpiece of the abolition of the Ministry for Gender Equality and the Family, on behalf of all members of the House of Representatives.
Whether this bill can pass in the National Assembly depends on the cooperation of the Democratic Party of Korea.
The ruling party is evaluating persuasion and the opposition party is evaluating the level of response.

Popular power has completed the proposal for a bill that contains a plan to reorganize the Yun Seok-yeol government.
All 115 lawmakers belonging to the party participated, and plan leader Joo Ho-young initiated a “speed war” with legislators’ legislation as the representative initiator.
Interior and Security Minister Lee Sang-min personally explained the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and the Family, the transfer of duties, the promotion of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and Veterans Affairs and l establishment of the Office of Overseas Koreans at the General Assembly of People’s Power.
The remaining goal is to finalize the legislation by the end of the year, when the regular National Assembly concludes.
In particular, the key is how well the Democratic Party of Korea, which has 169 seats, cooperates.
“In addition, the government has submitted a proposal to the Democratic Party of Korea to keep its promises and the government can work more efficiently, so we ask for help and support as much as possible.”
The Democratic Party generally agrees on the contents of the reform plan except for the abolition of the ministry of leisure.
However, we refrain from taking an official position on the level of party-level response to the abolition of the Ministry of Leisure.
“(Aren’t you worried about the reform bill?) We’ve already handed everything over to the government. (More or less?) We talked about everything last time.”
It seems that such a cautious stance may be rooted in concern that the opposition could be seen as “clawing the new government”.
The abolition of the Ministry of Leisure was a factor that caused gender conflicts during the presidential election, but some point out that there is a limit to blindly opposing, as President Yoon was elected on a promise.
The Democratic Party plans to focus on the issue of abolishing the leisure ministry at the level of relevant standing committees, such as the National Assembly’s Committee on Gender Equality and Family.
