Karol G, Bad Bunny and Peso Pluma were the big winners of the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards, held in Miami, Florida. The Colombian won eight awards, including the Global 200 Latin Artist of the Year and Tour of the Year, while the Puerto Rican and the Mexican received six awards each, including Artist of the Year for Benito.
The event, hosted by Carmen Villalobos and Danilo Carrera, began with a performance by Colombian Luis Alfonso, who presented his songs “Tequila con beer” and “Chismofilia.” Regional Mexican music had its moment with Fuerza Regida and its television debut of “Tu name” and “Nel”, and the young Mexican Xavi with “La diabla”. Likewise, the urban rhythm was represented by Yandel and Chencho Corleone, who premiered “Afro”, “Háblame Claro” and “Lo caro y lo bien”, respectively.
The night also included a collaboration between Gloria Trevi and María Becerra, who performed “Borracha,” and a performance by Prince Royce alongside Gabito Ballesteros with “Cosas de la peda.” Later, nostalgia arrived with Grupo Niche and their version of “Cali pachanguero”, and Proyecto Uno closed the show with “Tiburón”.
Among the highlights of the ceremony were the special awards. Among them, J Balvin received the Billboard Spirit of Hope Award, presented by Maluma, after performing “Cosa de locos.” Likewise, Mexican icon Pepe Aguilar was honored with the Billboard Hall of Fame Award and delighted the audience with a medley of his hits. For his part, the Spanish Alejandro Sanz was awarded the Billboard Artistic Career Award.
In addition, artists such as Shakira, Daddy Yankee, Wisin & Yandel, and Xavi were also recognized with individual awards. In total, the ceremony, broadcast on Telemundo, brought together more than 30 Latin music stars in a night full of memorable performances and musical premieres.
