The spread of disease is remarkable because, according to studies, the virus moves quickly, especially in indoor areas. For example, it is currently being investigated how contagious it is to be in an – open – football stadium.
The group of friends celebrated a birthday on September 12 during the Nijmegen Beer Festivities on a former factory site in the Hazenkamp district. It is the only place where they were all together, De Gelderlander reports. They say they have acted ‘not responsible’ that evening by not keeping a distance of 1.5 meters and giving each other hugs. “You don’t pay much attention to each other,” one of them explains to the newspaper.
The first complaints emerge a few days later. “I’m catching a cold,” reports one of the friends in a group app. Another took a test and received a positive result. “One person did not get sick.”
‘Assumption’
Earlier, three student cafes in the city of Gelderland were closed by order of Mayor Hubert Bruls. The cultural hotspot Hubert on the former factory site may remain open for the time being. “The GGD does not know whether an infection has taken place in the open air. This is an assumption. Infections mainly occur when people do not comply with the 1.5 m measure ”, said a spokesman of the health service.
