Illustration of planets in the Solar System
–
Bobo.id – There are eight planets in the Solar System, namely Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
The eight planets move around the Sun as their orbits.
Planet-planets in the Solar System further divided into the Outer Planets and Inner Planets. What is the difference between an Outer Planet and an Inner Planet? Come on, let’s find out the full explanation!
Before we find out the difference, first find out the names of the Inner Planet and Outer Planet groups, yes.
The Inner Planet Group is the planets that are closest to the Sun, such as Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.
Meanwhile, the Outer Planets are the planets farthest from the Sun, such as Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The Outer Planet Group is also known as the Gas Giants (Gas Giant).
The Inner Planets and Outer Planets are separated by an asteroid belt, where there are thousands of asteroids orbiting the sun between Mars and Jupiter.
Then, what is the difference between the planets belonging to the inner planet group and the outer planets?
Size
The planets that are small enough are included in the Inner Planet group.
The smallest planet in this group is Mercury which is about 4,878 km in diameter. While the largest planet, Earth, is about 12,756 km in diameter.
The planets that are large are included in the Outer Planet group.
Even Neptune, which is the smallest planet on the Inner Planet, has a diameter much larger than the Earth’s diameter, which is about 49,552 km.
This size is four times the size of the Earth. The largest planet in the Outer Planet group is Jupiter which has a diameter of about 142,985 km.
Jupiter is also the largest planet in the solar system.

Surface Density
In theory, we can only stand on the surface of the Inner Planet.
This is because the surface is a solid object.
However, if we look at the temperature, we can only stand on Earth, because Mercury and Venus are too hot, and Mars actually has very cold temperatures.
Meanwhile, the surface of the Outer Planet is composed of gas or air.
There are also solid or liquid surfaces, but the amount is very small and it is in the deepest part. Not on the surface of the planet.
Planet Rotation
The Inner Planet rotates quite slowly on its axis when compared to the Outer Planet.
In this group, the slowest rotating planet is Venus because it takes 243 days to rotate. While the fastest is the earth, which is about 23 hours 56 minutes.
Meanwhile, the Outer Planets, although this is a group that has large planets, they rotate very fast.
The planet in this group that rotates the slowest is Uranus with a time of 17 hours 15 minutes. While the fastest planet is Jupiter because it only takes 9 hours 55 minutes.

Because of their very fast rotation, the planets Jupiter and Saturn look a little flattened. This is because the area at the equator or the equator is bigger than the area above and below it.
Planet Rings
All Outer Planets have rings. This is different from the Inner Planet which has no rings at all.
The rings that surround the Outer Planet are satellites which are then destroyed by the force of gravity.
Even though all the Outer Planets have rings, only Saturn, whose rings are clearly visible, can even be seen from Earth.
This is because Saturn has rings that are denser than the rings of the other planets in the Inner Outer Planet group.
