because0403 Hualien EarthquakeblockedSuhua HighwayThe Highway Bureau has been conducting emergency repairs for several days. The Qingshui Bridge steel bridge under Provincial Line 9 was completed yesterday and was opened to small vehicles in both directions at 6 o’clock last night. Minister of Transportation Wang Guocai posted on Facebook yesterday afternoon that the Highway Bureau was renovating the old Suhua No. 7 Bridge (1932) as a replacement road, and “the old-timers came on board.” Former Central Meteorological Director Zheng Mingdian also said on Facebook today that the “old bridge” is so inspiring.

Wang Guocai said that the Qingshui Bridge under the Suhua Highway on Provincial Route 9 was blocked by the broken bridge. The Highway Bureau renovated the old Suhua No. 7 Bridge (1932) as an alternative road. It was completed and opened to traffic at 6 o’clock last night. The veteran came on stage. Zheng Mingdian said that the inspiring “Old Bridge” has been abandoned for many years and is now functioning again. It is really dreamy.

The Provincial Highway 9 Su-Hua Highway was affected by the Hualien earthquake. Many rockfalls and landslides blocked the entire line. The emergency repair team of the Nan’ao Public Works Section of the East District Maintenance Engineering Branch of the Highway Bureau has been actively repairing the work in recent days. The Highway Bureau said that in the early stage of the construction of the Xiaqingshui Bridge, the steel access bridge was built using the old Xiaqingshui Bridge. After professional technicians assisted on-site inspection, it was found that the abutment structure and bearing capacity were still good. An additional new bridge was added to the 10-meter-long old bridge deck. 12-meter-long combat-ready steel beams were closely arranged and welded, and approach roads at both ends were opened to connect to the existing highway.

The lower Qingshui Bridge will be open to single-lane, two-way traffic from 6pm last night for small vehicles (weight limit 5 tons). However, the Highway Bureau stated that currently, many slopes on Provincial Highway 9’s 158k~165k (Daqingshui~Chongde) road need to undergo slope brushing and slope protection projects, and many parts of the road continue to undergo pavement renovation, road capacity improvement and side ditches. For cleaning and other work, and considering driving safety, the road section will be opened to traffic during the initial period and will be subject to period control.

The northern end of the controlled road section is the north entrance of the Renshui Tunnel of Provincial Line 9 (Provincial Line 9 154K+787), and the southern end is the Chongde Control Station (Provincial Line 9 166K+700).

Control period: From today to April 30, the traffic will be released daily from 7 to 8 a.m., from 12 to 13 p.m., and from 17 to 18 p.m., a total of three periods, and early warning closure control will be implemented at night.

The Highway Bureau stated that vehicle traffic under Qingshui Bridge is a single-lane, two-way road controlled by traffic lights. The northern control point is located at the south entrance of the Provincial Highway 9 Renshui Tunnel (Provincial Highway 9 158K+195), and the southern control point is located at the north entrance of the Daqingshui Tunnel. (Provincial Line 9 158K+660), emergency lighting and night warning facilities have been added. Passers-by are advised to drive carefully and pass in accordance with the signs.

In addition, the slope at 67k+300 of Provincial Highway 9D is still in an unstable state and continues to fall. The Highway Bureau stated that in order to maintain the safety of passers-by, the single line of Provincial Highway 65K+200~68K+800 (from Ren to Da Qingshui) has been cleared. Due to the high frequency of rockfalls, vehicles are traveling through the Renshui Tunnel on Line 9 (local trains are allowed to pass).
