An outrageous complaint has come to light about the way police reacted to a woman who went to hospital after “she had been raped three days before she came to the emergency room,” according to the workers’ union at the “Elena Venizelou” general hospital-maternity.
Based on the complaint the police followed “crude intervention in the care process” and submitted it to “long hours waiting at an AT”.
The hospital employees typically complain:
“We consider it unthinkable, dangerous and unscientific, for her to report these symptoms after being raped, to be removed from our hospital and referred to an A.T. of the basin.
The process of dealing with victims of abuse cannot be in the hands of the police. If a member of the board of our union did not intervene in this infuriating process of the second abuse of the woman, neither would he return to the hospital nor would the police come to the site of the TEP to take a statement as prescribed by law.”
As if this were not enough, the hospital workers complain that the woman “She was informed by the police that she would be called the next day to give evidence to a psychologist and that she would be seen by a coroner the following day. And with some medical recommendations she returned home. Days have passed and still no one has called her.”
Finally, the employees state in their complaint that:
“It was revealed before our eyes that despite the honorable efforts of the staff the government and the ministry with their murderous and sexist policy have dismantled a gynecological hospital that is unable to provide the necessities to a raped woman. They don’t give a damn about their treatment and essentially with these procedures they prevent them from reporting rape and protect the abuser more than the victim.”
