Complaint against the Amsterdam body for misogynistic speeches | inland

Some male members of the Amsterdam corps who have fallen into disrepute this summer due to misogynistic statements were denounced this week for “inciting hatred, discrimination and/or violence,” reports Prakken d’Oliveira. The law firm assists the woman who filed a complaint.

The speeches were given this summer during the celebration of the Amsterdamsch Studenten Corps and the Amsterdamsche Vrouwen Studenten Vereeniging shine and contained lyrics such as “breaking women’s necks to stick dicks in them”. The speeches also said, among other things, that women are “full of sperm.”

“These statements, even seen jointly, can be interpreted as inciting hatred, discrimination and/or violence against women. From the customer’s point of view, there’s misogyny here,” says Prakken d’Oliveira.

Rooted culture

The law firm also says that media reports show that no investigation has been launched by the prosecutor. However, the woman who denounced the crime believes that the search for a solution should not be left to the ASC/AVSV itself. ,,Several sources show that the statements in question are characteristics of a culture rooted within the body in which this type of behavior towards women is more or less normalized; it’s dismissed as a “joke” that shouldn’t be taken seriously. However, according to the client’s belief, there is nothing funny about it and, by trivializing it, the threshold of sexually transgressive (and violent) behavior is further lowered.

Prakken d’Oliveira says their client has no ties to the corps or student body and is “in a different stage of life than the average student.”
