Wonderful discovery that arouses emotion and terror. A piece of rubber was found in 11-year-old Yan’s left foot. Coming from a slipper, he wedged himself in the sole of the boy’s foot when he was injured five months ago. Treated at Dr AG Jeetoo hospital, he ended up developing an infection and contracting staph. It was a clinic that operated on him to remove this foreign body on Friday December 9, 2022. The operation lasted 30 to 45 minutes.
One has to go back to Saturday July 16, 2022 to fully understand the case. “That day my son injured the sole of his left foot stepping on an iron bar. There is construction work in our yard,” says Christina.
On the same day, the child was taken to the Petite-Rivière dispensary. “The staff disinfected the wound. We gave my son a tetanus shot. Then they asked me to change his dressing every day», says the mother.

On Friday 26th August 2022, she took her son to Dr AG Jeetoo hospital for the second time. This time the child was admitted to a ward. Christina adds that after giving Yan an initial X-ray, the attending physician told her that he did not see any foreign bodies in her foot.
The mother says the hospital performed mini-surgery on her son to drain the fluid that had collected under his skin from the infection. A sample of this substance was taken. “It was then that they told me that my son had contracted staphylococcus, which is a bacteria resistant to antibiotics,” explains the mother.

The boy obtained permission to leave on Monday 12 September. “Two weeks later, when he went to the appointment, staff saw that his foot was still infected,” the mother said. My son has been on antibiotics for almost 5 months,” she said contemptuously.

The Ministry of Health: “An investigation is underway”
