Weed growers participating in the cannabis experiment and now waiting to enter the market must be compensated. That is what mayor Paul Depla of Breda says to the KRO-NCRV program Pointer. Just like Groningen, Breda is one of the ten municipalities participating in the experiment.
—
Some cannabis growers who are allowed to participate in the experiment are ahead of the others because of the selection procedure. A few are still in the Bibob procedure, in which their integrity is being tested.

Modelkwekers
This applies, for example, to model breeders John and Ines Meijers from Oldambt. ‘We are in the final phase’, says John Meijers. ‘We have been promised that we will have clarity before the end of the year.’
—
Meijers is all set to get started. ‘The permits for the construction have been completed. There are also participants who still have to purchase a location, after which they still have to arrange all permits.’
—
‘It all takes a very long time anyway,’ says Meijers. ‘How long has it been since the cannabis trial was announced? That was in 2017. We are now almost in 2022. It is only nice that attention is now being paid to this. Hopefully it will be put under pressure again.’

Simultaneous delivery
André Knottnerus, the chairman of the former advisory committee for the closed coffee shop chain, also thinks it is crucial for the success of the experiment that growers can supply the coffee shops simultaneously. ‘If you have to keep certain investments in the air that don’t pay back for longer, you have to find solutions and perhaps also go public.’

Ten municipalities and ten growers
During the experiment, closed coffee shop chain, or the cannabis experiment, all coffee shops in the ten participating municipalities sell the regulated, quality-controlled weed and hashish for four years. It is produced by a maximum of ten selected growers.
