MANCHESTER (VG) Premier League strikers already award the title of top scorer to Erling Braut Haaland (22). West Ham’s Michail Antonio (32) believes the Norwegian will take the record for the most goals in a season ever.

– Not only will it hit him. She will tear him apart. I say 45 goals, and that’s the minimum, says Antonio in a BBC podcast with Newcastle England striker Callum Wilson (30).
In front of VG, City manager Pep Guardiola (51) comments on the hunt for the record.
– It will be good for City as a club. And the records are broken. If it continues at the pace it has now, it will. Who knows. After the Community Shield final (where Haaland was goalless), people were very skeptical. Now people are very confident. But no one knows what will happen, says Guardiola.
National striker Wilson, on the other hand, feels completely safe.
– He’s about to break the record, says the Newcastle forward.
For the first three seasons following the formation of the Premier League in 1992, the series consisted of 22 teams and 42 rounds. In 1993/1994, Alan Shearer and Andy Cole both scored 34 goals. That record is still valid. After the league was reduced to 20 teams and 38 games per team, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (30) has the best record with 32 goals in the 2017/2018 season.
Haaland has so far scored 14 goals in eight league games. There are still 30 rounds to go. The number is twice as high as the man behind him on the top scorer list, Harry Kane (29). Wilson, in comparison, has three goals for Newcastle and has already given up on competing with Haaland.
Think everyone can do it.
– If you score the most goals, you will get the Golden Shoe at the end of the season. Now it’s out of the picture for the rest of us. He went. Haaland needs his boot and the rest of us need another one, Wilson says, laughing.
– The rest of us need a silver boot (to compete). We need something that does it justice.
