Brose Bamberg will face ratiopharm ulm in the first competitive game of the new season in the Weißenfels town hall. The game is the prelude to Group C in the MagentaSport BBL Cup. Tip-off is at 3 p.m. and MagentaSport will of course also broadcast all games live and in full during this season.
In addition to Brose and Ulm, s.Oliver Würzburg and MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg also play in Group C. Round one will take place next weekend in Weißenfels, rounds two and three on the following Saturday and Sunday in the Ulm ratiopharm arena. Only the group winners qualify for the final tournament on October 31st and November 1st in Munich.
Ratiopharm ulm has been in competitive game mode for three weeks. Since then, Ulm has played three games in the EuroCup, winning one and losing two. The last defeat came last Wednesday at home against Boulogne. Jaka Lakovic’s men lost 80:86. And that, although in the end there was a 60% three-way quota (15/25) on the tableau. Above all, the ex-Bamberg-born Andreas Obst (5/6) and newcomer Eric Holman (6/6) showed themselves to be accurate from beyond the 6.75m line. The fact that in the end it wasn’t enough for the second victory at European level was confirmed by Lakovic’s own defense: “We only got 53% of the possible rebounds on our own board. That’s disappointing. ”In the last quarter alone, the French got seven offensive rebounds, all of which they used to score points. The two best Ulm players so far remained pale this Wednesday: Troy Caupain and Dylan Osetkowski only got five points. And yet, ratiopharm ulm is a team that can always be expected at any time. In addition to the aforementioned newcomers Holman, Caupain and Osetkowski, Johan Petrucelli in particular is hard to stop on good days. Then there is the eternal burner Per Günther, who wants to really know it again in his 15th professional season. And Patrick Heckmann has also shown that Lakovic can count on him. So far, the Ulm team has had to do without two more newcomers: Tommy Klepeisz will probably be suffering from a hand injury for a little longer, Isaiah Wilkins has so far been out with a thigh problem.
Brose Bamberg has successfully completed its preparation with two test match wins against FILOU Oostende. Johan Roijakkers’ team showed against the 20-time Belgian champion and BCL participant that they can play with energy and passion for over 40 minutes. Two virtues that were too easily pronounced in some games before, but which the head coach had explicitly pointed out and trained accordingly in the last few days. Noticeable in the nine test games completed so far: all Bamberg players can score. So there were five players each against Ostend who put up double-digit values. Training player Elias Lasisi will also be part of the cup game. The 28-year-old Belgian has been training and playing with the team for a good ten days and has already integrated well. In his first game he was top scorer with 16 points, in the second he came up with 13 points. The two matches against Ulm that have already been played have little meaning for the team and coaching team. Once there was a clear defeat, once there was a clear victory.
Johan Roijakkers: “Ulm is the favorite in the game. You have already played three competitive games. Our defense against Osetkowski will be key. He has already shown several times what he is capable of. For us it is about playing our basketball constantly for 40 minutes, that we keep our energy up offensively and defensively. “
Christian Sengfelder: “We are all happy that things are finally starting again. We have a good team together that also get along very well off the field. We find each other better and better on the floor. The last two games against Ostend have shown that. That was partly nice basketball. Now it is important to show this form against Ulm and at best to go into the final four with a victory in the then decisive weekend. “
Unlike Brose Bamberg’s last official competitive game at the final tournament in Munich, the game against Ulm will be played in front of spectators. A maximum of 1250 visitors may be on site in the Weißenfels town hall. The Brose team was able to experience the feeling of what it feels like to play in front of fans again last Saturday. In the test against Oostende, for the first time after 243 days, 545 spectators, who spread a great atmosphere, were present at a basketball game in the BROSE ARENA.
