Compete with iPad Mini, Xiaomi Launches Xiaomi Pad 5 in RI

After three years of not selling tablets, Xiaomi will launch a new tablet in Indonesia, namely the Xiaomi Pad 5. The tablet appears almost at the same time as the launch of the iPad Mini 6 from Apple.

Director of Xiaomi Indonesia Alvin Tse said, Xiaomi will launch its new tablet in Indonesia at the same time as the launch of the new smartphone or smartphone Redmi 10, tonight (17/9). Globally Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi Pad 5 last August.

Xiaomi has not sold tablets in Indonesia for three years. Xiaomi last launched a tablet in Indonesia in 2018, namely, the Mi Pad 4 and Mi Pad 4 Plus tablets.

“So far, we have focused on marketing smartphone (smart phone). Now, Xiaomi presents another new tablet Xiaomi Pad 5 in Indonesia,” said Alvin in a virtual press conference on Friday (17/9).

Xiaomi is targeting the work-at-home market or work from home (WFH) on this new tablet. “It could also be for school children,” said Alvin.

Xiaomi has improved a number of device capabilities and features on the Xiaomi Pad 5 compared to previous versions of the tablet. Xiaomi Pad 5 for example, now has a stylus pen (smart pen). Then, on the screen, there is the ability to refresh rates up to 120 Hz.

Xiaomi has also installed an LCD panel on its new tablet. Meanwhile, the screen is now TUV Rheinland certified.

For the chip (chipset), Xiaomi relies on the capabilities of the chip from Qualcomm, namely Snapdragon 860. The chip is supported by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB and 256 GB of internal memory.

Xiaomi installed two camera compositions. On the rear camera, Xiaomi installs a resolution of 13 Megapixels (MP), while the front camera is 8 MP.

On the battery side, Xiaomi has installed a battery capacity of 8,720 mAh on the Pad 5. The battery is supported by 33 Watt fast charging capability.

In the global market, Xiaomi has priced the Pad 5 for 349 euros or Rp. 5.8 million for the 128 GB variant. Then, for the 256 GB variant, Xiaomi costs 399 euros or Rp. 6.6 million.

The launch of the Xiaomi Pad 5 in Indonesia is in line with the emergence of their competitor Apple which also launched its new tablet, the iPad Mini 6 globally. “The new iPad Mini is ready to order and will be available in stores on September 24,” said The Verge, Tuesday (14/9).

Apple is also improving capabilities and adding a number of features to the iPad Mini 6. One of them is support for Wi-Fi 6 networks and optional 5G access. Network download speeds can also be up to 3.5 Gbps.

Apple also embeds a Liquid Retina IPS LCD screen type with a brightness level of 500 nits. The mini tablet is also equipped with a USB-C port that has data transfer capabilities of up to 5 Gbps. Then there are the stereo speakers with a pair of loudspeakers. Then, there is the Touch ID feature on the top button.

However, when compared to the Xiaomi Pad 5, the price of this Apple tablet is more expensive. Apple priced the iPad Mini 6 at US $ 499 or Rp. 7.1 million for the Wi-Fi Only variant. While the Wi-Fi + Cellular model, sold for US $ 649 or Rp. 9.3 million.
