The municipality of Groningen will transfer 2,000 euros to eight district and neighborhood associations in the area around the Stadspark because of the Rammstein concerts that took place here in July.
A spokesperson for the municipality confirmed this on Friday after reporting about this from broadcaster OOG. The noise standard was increased from 100 to 103 decibels for the concerts. The neighborhood is not compensated because of noise pollution, but because of the late communication of the louder noise.
“We initially had the idea of compensating local residents. But when are you a local resident?” says the municipal spokesperson. It has therefore been decided to give the money to the district and neighborhood associations around the City Park, where the concerts took place on July 6 and 7. “They can do whatever they want with it.”
The neighborhood was informed rather late of the deviation from the zoning plan for the higher noise standard, the spokesperson reports. This meant that people did not have enough time to take measures, such as arranging an alternative place to sleep.
