Compensating benefit parents will take longer than expected | Inland

State Secretary Van Huffelen (Finance) writes this to the Lower House. In recent weeks, the first more than 100 allowance parents have been compensated with a total of 1.2 million euros. According to the State Secretary, this went ‘positively’.

But it has also taught the D66 minister that ‘it takes longer to treat larger numbers of parents than originally estimated’. This is because assessing the files ‘turns out to be more complex than expected’. According to Van Huffelen, it means that fewer parents will be paid this year than previously thought. The State Secretary can no longer make any promises about the exact numbers of parents who can still be helped this year. Distressing cases will take precedence, writes Van Huffelen.

The fact that compensation takes longer than expected is due to the difficult files, but also due to the large network of regulations that the Ministry of Finance has set up to be able to give all parents financial satisfaction. In addition, there are start-up problems with the special organization that has been set up for the compensation. According to Van Huffelen, it is ‘not yet sufficiently robust to be able to offer the desired level of speed, care and service’. The biggest problem is finding suitable employees.
