Jakarta –
Microsoft hasn’t disclosed Xbox sales for a long time, so it’s hard to know which one is selling better, Xbox or PlayStation.
However, recently in its presentation in Brazil, Microsoft revealed that they have so far sold 21 million units of Xbox Series S and X. It was not disclosed which sold more, Series S or X, but Microsoft said 48% of Series S users were people who new to the Xbox platform.
For comparison, as of March 31, 2023, Sony has sold around 38.4 million PlayStation 5. In the near future, they may update this data because Sony is scheduled to reveal its latest financial report on August 4.
This sales comparison is interesting because actually in terms of price, consoles made by Microsoft are available in more affordable variants. Namely the Xbox Series S, which, despite having lower specifications, is also USD 100 cheaper than the cheapest version of the PS5.
In addition, Xbox has a reliable service, namely Xbox Game Pass, which costs relatively cheap with a fairly complete catalog of games. However, it seems that there are still more PlayStation loyalists than Xbox. And Xbox also indirectly acknowledges this, namely by not disclosing the amount of Xbox sales…until now.
Xbox said that if sales of Xbox Series S and X were combined with Xbox One, the number would have exceeded 79 million units. However, this number of sales is still less than PS4 shipments, which as of March 31, 2022 had reached 117.2 million units.
Microsoft’s move to reveal the number of Xbox sales may have something to do with their efforts to convince policy makers to allow them to acquire Activision Blizzard, quoted detikINET from Thursday (6/7/2023).
