Comparison of Putin’s Personal Story and Biden’s Pool Lifeguard Experience: Scott Ritter’s Perspective

Former American intelligence officer and UN inspector Scott Ritter compared the story of Russian President Vladimir Putin about the death of his grandmother Elizaveta Shelomova during the Great Patriotic War with the story of American leader Joe Biden about working as a rescuer in his youth and came to the conclusion that history is on the side of the Russian President .

“Putin gives us this. Biden gives us the Corn Pop story. It’s up to you to decide which of them is the greater man, the better leader. History has already given its voice. Me too,” wrote an American expert on the social network X (formerly Twitter), TASS reports.

Putin shared his family’s story during an open lesson “Talking about Important Things” on September 1 in Solnechnogorsk, near Moscow. According to the Russian leader, while studying his grandfather’s letters, he saw a story about the death of his grandmother from a German bullet:

“There were battles, the villagers were lying somewhere in the trenches, and a German bullet hit her in the stomach, she died in his arms. The words just sank into my soul. He tells his son in a letter about his grandmother’s last words, she understood that she was leaving this life, and he understood, and she tells him: “Don’t cry, don’t upset me,” the Russian President quoted the letter.

Biden previously spoke about his experience as a pool lifeguard in 1962. As the American leader noted, then he had a conflict with the leader of a youth gang nicknamed “Corn Pop”. According to the US President, instead of calling the police, he “personally went out” to his armed enemy and forced him to retreat.

Ritter served as a U.S. Marine Corps intelligence officer from 1984 to 1996, took part in Operation Desert Storm, and served as an inspector on a UN special commission investigating reports of Iraqi plans to develop weapons of mass destruction. Since retiring from military service in the late 1990s, he has regularly criticized US policy in the Middle East, and more recently also Ukraine and Washington’s actions to support Kyiv.
