Phone 15 series will be released in Indonesia at a more expensive price in comparison iPhone 14 series. This is not surprising considering that the production costs for the iPhone 15 series are higher than the previous generation.
The latest report from Nikkei reveals the bill of materials (BoM) or component costs for the iPhone 15 series. Apparently, the BoM of the iPhone 15 series has increased by around 8-16% compared to the BoM of the iPhone 14 series.
The iPhone 15 variant with the most expensive components is of course the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This cellphone has a BoM of USD 558 (around Rp. 8.7 million) or 12% higher than the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
According to Nikkei’s explanation, the cost of the 5x periscope camera used by the iPhone 15 Pro Max is 380% more expensive than the 3x telephoto camera on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The titanium frame used is worth USD 50, or 43% more expensive than the stainless steel used in the previous generation.
The A17 Pro chip used by the iPhone 15 Pro Max is priced at USD 130, which represents a 27% increase compared to the A16 Bionic chip used by the iPhone 14 Pro series. LTPO OLED panel used iPhone 15 Pro Max also includes one of the most expensive components.
For other variants, the cost of iPhone 15 Pro components is USD 523 (Rp. 8.2 million), which represents an 8% increase compared to the previous generation. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Plus has a BoM of USD 442 (Rp. 6.9 million) or 10% higher than the iPhone 14 Plus, as quoted from Wccftech, Monday (16/10/2023).

Interestingly, iPhone 15 has the largest BoM difference compared to the iPhone 14. This lowest variant of the iPhone 15 has a component cost of USD 423 (Rp. 6.6 million) or 16% higher than the iPhone 14.
It should be noted that BoM only includes component and production costs. This figure does not include research and development costs, distribution, logistics, marketing, etc. It should also be noted that the price of the iPhone 15 series in certain markets such as the United States has not increased like in Indonesia.
