A Polish YouTuber tested the durability of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra
The clear winner in this case is Samsung
However, due to the “methodology” of the test, the results must be taken with a slight margin
According to some, flexible phones are the future, for others, they are just a stepping stone. Whatever your opinion of them, jigsaw puzzles are here among us and they are doing more and more well in sales. Above all, from the beginning of this relatively new phenomenon, however, many customers were concerned about their resistance to mechanical damage, especially about the long-term durability of the hinge. Bending tests have become very popular as a result, as has gauging which jigsaw puzzle can handle more unfolding and folding.
Samsung beat Motorola in the hinge durability test
Polish YouTuber Mrkeybrd pitted the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra against each other in this test, which are currently the biggest competitors not only on our market. He folded and unfolded both clamshells by hand until this activity affected their functionality. And that he sweated a lot – the Galaxy Z Flip 5 survived a respectable 401,156 folds, but about halfway through 223,000 folds, signs of hinge wear began to show. The competitor Razr 40 Ultra managed “only” 126,266 cycles, while the first problems began to appear after only 44 thousand bends.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 beats the Razr 40 Ultra by a wide margin
According to official information from Samsung and Motorola, their jigsaws are tested for 200,000 bends, respectively 400,000 in the case of Motorola. To give you an idea – 200,000 bends corresponds to 100 folds and unfolds every day for five years. However, Mrkeybrd’s test confirmed that the more durable puzzle in this case is the one from South Korea, which came out as the clear winner in his test.
Nevertheless, this test needs to be taken with a considerable margin. Given that a person exerts a different force each time when bending a jigsaw, the two devices do not measure the same, and thus it is impossible to speak of objective conclusions of the test. For such a YouTuber would have to use the same calibrated devices to ensure maximum objectivity. On the other hand, man is not a machine and tends to destroy devices much faster in normal use than in sterile laboratory tests. Even if Mrkeybrd’s conclusions cannot be taken for granted, it does tell a little about the durability of individual jigsaws.
