An easily portable laptop can make studying much more efficient. That is why we have tested a total of nine smaller and larger thin and light machines for you, which are suitable for work and play.
Owning a thin and light laptop used to be just a dream that paid off a lot. Today, it is no longer a problem to buy such a one. However, they differ significantly in performance, equipment and quality of construction. In our big test, this time we focused on 15.6 “and 14” laptops with a price up to 23 000 CZK and integrated graphics only.
This is the price at which you can buy an uncompromisingly powerful machine with a spacious SSD and enough RAM, so it is also suitable for more demanding work. The criterion for participating in the test was the integrated graphics to make all laptops as thin as possible and as portable as possible. If you are going to play an easy game, you can – as our test showed, today’s integrated graphics can handle most older, but also many of today’s game titles.

- Asus ZenBook 14 (UX425EA)
- Dell Inspiron 14 (N-7400-N2-511S)

The Dell Inspiron 14 was the only one not to meet the price limit, which you can get for CZK 24,000, however, it would be a shame not to include it in the test. Also take into account that all laptops in our test are available in other configurations, so if, for example, you require 16 GB of memory, a faster processor, or a lower price, just look at the offer of e-shops for the machine.
Key display
First, you will be faced with choosing the size of the display diagonal. If you want the largest possible display area and numeric keypad, choose from 15.6 “models. It also cools a little better and, for example, the Acer Apire 5 will also offer a LAN port or a slot for a 2.5” drive. Or do you appreciate better mobility? You will hardly feel the smaller and lighter 14 “machine in your backpack. An alternative replacement for the classic numeric pad will be offered, for example, by the Asus ZenBook 14, which has an integrated touch touchpad.
You should also be interested in the quality of the display. Gone are the days when it was being decided whether the notebook has an IPS panel or a TN with loose viewing angles. Now you will choose between average and high-quality IPS panels, which offer a low average color deviation ΔE and a gamut (color gamut) covering the entire sRGB color space. This will be appreciated especially by those who work with photographs, so that they can be sure that the colors in the edited photo correspond to reality. In the test, we also had a laptop whose display stood out – Dell Inspiron 14 with a 14.5 “panel with an aspect ratio of 16:10 (more portrait space), a resolution of 2,560 × 1,600 px and absolutely minimal color deviation.
AMD versus Intel
Although Intel’s Core i5-1135G7 predominates among the tested notebooks, the AMD Ryzen 7 5700U or Ryzen 5 5500U is a more interesting choice due to the larger number of cores (Ryzen 5 has 6 and Ryzen 7 is equal to 8 compared to four for the i5 and i7), and thus higher multi-threaded power at comparable consumption. However, if you are more interested in the presence of the interface, count on the fact that currently the fastest Thunderbolt 4 will offer you only a laptop built on the Intel platform (and only some).
