Company vehicles: – 19.38% in May 2021 compared to May 2019

As for the month of April 2021, the Arval Mobility Observatory (AMO) made the choice in May 2021 to compare the registrations of light vehicles on the corporate market with the figures for May 2019 rather than those for May 2020, France then being in confinement.

According to its monthly barometer, 59,382 light vehicles were put on the road last month, a decrease of 19.38% with only one working day less compared to 2019. This decline affected both the passenger vehicle segment ( 36,092 units registered, – 19%) than that of light commercial vehicles (23,490 units, – 19.9%).

On the energy side, “the disaffection for thermal models is even more widespread compared to 2019”, indicates the observatory. Light diesel vehicle registrations fell 35.66% in May 2021 compared to May 2019 to 33,721 units and gasoline registrations by 24.95% to 12,517 units.

Conversely, sales of electrified vehicles rose sharply: 10,391 hybrid vehicles were put on the road (+ 262.8%) – including 5,324 rechargeable (+ 775.65%) and 5,067 non-rechargeable (+ 124.6 %) – as well as 2,661 electric vehicles (+ 74.26%).

A decrease of 5.23% over five months compared to 2019

In total, over the first five months of the year 2021, the AMO recorded the registration of 347,829 light vehicles on the corporate market, i.e. – 5.23% compared to the same period in 2019. The drop has in particular affected PCs (201,602 units, – 5.54%) but also LCVs (146,227 units, – 4.79%).

Here again, electrified engines have nevertheless fared well. 51,524 light hybrid vehicles have been registered since the start of the year, or + 316.55% compared to the same period in 2019. Among these registrations, l he observatory recorded 24,711 plug-in hybrids (+ 641.18%) and 26,813 non-plug-in hybrids (+ 196.76%). At the same time, 14,052 electric light vehicles were put on the road, up 71.93%.

On the other hand, “thermal engines are seeing their fall amplify in company car fleets, compared to a basis of comparison which was still favorable to them in 2019”, comments the AMO. Registrations of diesel light vehicles fell by 20.34% to 211,608 units and those of gasoline by 14% to 69,058 units.

18.81% of PDM for electrified engines

In the end, the market shares over five months in 2021 amount to 60.84% for diesel, 19.85% for gasoline, 14.81% for hybrid (including 7.71% for non-rechargeable hybrid and 7.1% for the rechargeable hybrid) and 4% for the electric. “If we take into account only the passenger car segment, the market shares stand at 30.66% for gasoline; 39.81% for diesel; 5% for the electric and 24.12% for the hybrids, including 12.07% for the rechargeable and 12.06% for the simple hybrids ”, completes the observatory.
